OBITUARY - ARTHUR H. BONEBRAKE

Arthur H. BONEBRAKE, son of Horace and Alpha AYRES BONEBRAKE, was born Oct. 28, 1885 in Ringgold county. In his early childhood the family lived in Knowlton and then Diagonal. He worked in a general store in Shannon [City]. Then he went into business for himself, first in Newell and then in Diagonal where he had a grocery and dry-goods store from 1935 up to his retiring in 1964. Because of failing health, he moved to Clearview Home at Mount Ayr in 1976 where he lived until his home-going.

He accepted Christ as his Savior in his youth. This faith has grown over the years and produced qualities for which his family and friends will long remember him. His dealings in the business world were always honest and he was a loyal member of the Diagonal community. He was always concerned that he be a good example to the younger generation, especially his own children and grandchildren. We are enriched by knowing him as a man of great integrity.

He was married to Laura GRAU of Newell, May 31, 1920 and enjoyed this companionship for almost 60 years. He had a warm relationship with his children and grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were an infant daughter, Buena Alice; and three brothers - Harley, Fred, and Rollo.

He leaves also his wife, Laura; five children - Cullen and Helen BONEBRAKE of St. Joseph, Mo. and their sons - Jim, Tom, Jack and Bob; Arden and Pat BONEBRAKE of Nebraska City and their children - Alan, Jill, Jane and Ted; Jack and Ann (BONEBRAKE) LORD of Richwood, Tex. and their family - David, Janet, Richard, Don and Carolyn; Mary Ann BONEBRAKE of Hiawatha, Kan. - Steve, Bruce, Brent and Marcia; and Roland and Jean (BONEBRAKE) FRIESEN of Japan and their children - Loren, Gary, Annette, Bryan, Philip and Arlan. Also surviving are 23 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 1979 in the Diagonal Christian Church. Officiating was Dr. Jack LORD. Organist was Mrs. Harold TAYLOR. Casketbearers were Gordon PARKER, Steve BONEBRAKE, Bruce BONEBRAKE, Jim BONEBRAKE, Jack BONEBRAKE and Don LORD. Varner-Watson Funeral Home was in charge.

His body was interred in the Diagonal Cemetery.

The family takes great comfort from the words of Jesus: "If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto Myself, that where I am there you may be also."
