OBITUARY - DORIS ELAINE (RICHEY) COVERDELL

Doris Elaine RICHEY COVERDELL, daughter of Clair and Ruby COX RICHEY, was born January 1, 1922, in Morgan County, Colorado, and succumbed to cancer on August 4, 1987, at the Baptist Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri, at the age of 65 years, seven months and four days.

At an early age Doris moved with her parents to Mount Ayr, Iowa, where she received her education. On August 14, 1940, she was united in marriage to Gale E. COVERDELL of Ellston, Iowa. To this union eight children were born.

Doris was a loving and devoted wife, mother and friend. She was an active member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, past president of the Business and Professional Women Chapter in both Maryville and St. Joseph, Missouri. She also served as a past 4-H leader, Cub Scout Den Mother, and Salvation Army Volunteer.

She lived most of her adult life in the communites of Creston, Iowa, Maryville and St. Joseph, Missouri. While in Creston, Doris was employed at Woolworths and also known for the beautiful wedding cakes she created. In Maryville she was employed at Hy-Vee, Northwest Missouri State University and Lloyd Chains. Doris was on leave of absence from Ramada Inn of St. Joseph, Missouri at the time of her death.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary and husband Tom NEUSER of Urbandale, Iowa; her twins, son John COVERDELL and wife, Renee of Whitman A.F.B., Missouri and daughter, Joan and husband Richard MARBURG of Ft. Washington, Pennsylvania; her daughter, Linda WALKER of Fredoria, Kansas; daughter, Pam and husband Alfred ROLLER of Kansas City, MO. and sons, Rodney and wife Juledene of Maryville, MO., Ricky and wife Greta of Anaheim, California, and son Richey of Raytown, Missouri. Doris is also survived by her ten grandchildren: Theresa and Tonya NEUSER, RIchard and Brian MARBURG, Johnny and Gale WALKER, Shelby ROLLER, Alison and Brooke COVERDELL, and Erin COVERDELL.

Doris is also survived by two sisters: Audrey HAGUE of Shalimar, Florida, and Velda FENTON of Osceola, Iowa, and a brother, Duane RICHEY of Alamagordo, New Mexico.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Gale E. COVERDELL; a grandson, Deon WALKER; her parents, Clair and Ruby RICHEY, and two sisters, Thelma RICHEY and Cleta RICHEY VALE.

Funeral services were held Aug. 7, 1987, at the Price Funeral Home in Maryville, Missouri. Burial was in the Ellston Cemetery at Ellston, Iowa.
