OBITUARY

Mr. Charles W. GRIMES was born February 25, 1867, and departed this life after a lingering illness at the home of his son, Lester, on May 6, 1951, at the age of 84 years, 2 months and 11 days. All members of his immediate family were present at his death bed. He was the last surviving member of his own family, having been preceded in death by his father, Pleasant J. GRIMES, Mary M. TALBOT GRIMES, a brother Edgar, and a sister Lena. Also preceding him in death was his wife, Bernice NEIDIGH GRIMES.

His early childhood was spent in the vicinity of his birth and he continued to live on the same farm until he retired in 1937 and moved to Shannon City. At an early age he was baptized into the Christian Church of Tingley, Iowa.

Besides being active in his church, Mr. GRIMES was an interested member for many years in the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and at one time held the position of Installing Office in the Encampment of the Grand Lodge of Iowa.

On the 14th day of April, 1909, he was united in marriage to Miss Bernice NEIDIGH of Shannon City. To this happy union were born four sons: Willam, Charles, Lester, and Robert. Besides the four surviving sons he leaves to mourn his loss five worshiping grandchildren: Jerolyn, Billy Joe, Mary Lynn, Eileen, and Jimmy.

Mr. GRIMES devoted his entire life to farming and to working for things that brought pleasure and sound moral and spiritual learning to his family. He was very much interested in education and demanded that good school work come first over anything else as far as his family was concerned.

The loss of Mr. GRIMES leaves a family saddened by his death but happy that he can lay down the burden of this life and be privileged to enter into the presence of the Supreme Being for his rest in Eternity which has been so richly deserved. The relationships he maintained with life as son, father, husband and friend were more than well done.

[Interment was at Oakland Cemetery south of Shannon City, Iowa.]
