Charles T. "Tolly" GRIMES was born May 8, 1913 at Shannon City, Iowa to Charles W. and Bernice (NEIDIGH) GRIMES. Tolly passed away suddenly at his home in Rancho Cordova, California on October 23, 2000.
Tolly grew up at Shannon City and graduated high school from there in 1931. He has lived in California since 1943 and at Rancho Cordova since 1957. Tolly was united in marriage to Virginia MARTIN on August 22, 1953 at Reno, Nevada. To this union two daughters were born, Debbie and Cynthia.
Tolly was a machinist and he worked at Aerojet in Rancho Cordova for several years. He helped build the rocket engines for the early Apollo missions. He was a member of the Machinist Union and New Horizons Retirement Club.
Tolly was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, William, Lester and Robert.
Those left to mourn his passing include his wife, Virginia of Rancho Cordova, California; two daughters: Debbie BERLINER and her husband Joe of Fortuna, California and Cynthia MILES and her husband Mike of Bowie, Maryland; one grandson, Aaron GRIMES BERLINER; and three sisters-in-law, Thelma GRIMES of Mount Ayr, Iowa, Louise GRIMES of Boulder, Colorado and Trudy GRIMES of Wellsburg, Iowa.
Graveside services were held at the Oakland Cemetery at Shannon City, Iowa on November 1, 2000 with Rev. Peter BRANTER officiating. Music was "Amazing Grace".
Casket bearers were Joe BERLINER, Mike MILES, Charles GRIMES, Aaron BERLINER, Rex KINKADE, Charlie GRIMES.
Arrangements were made by Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr.
