LEO F. CARNS DIES IN FLORIDA; RITES TO BE HERE
Leo F[rancis]. CARNS, 69, of St. Petersburg, Fla., died at the General Hospital there at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10 [1971] after a long illness. He had farmed in the Ellston and Shannon City communities until moving to St. Petersburg in. 1954.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 13, 1971 at the Mc Kasson funeral home here. Rev. Lyle S. DUNHAM will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery at Shannon City [Iowa]. His body will arrive in Creston late Sunday evening and will lie in state at the funeral home until time of the services.
Leo F. CARNES was born in Clarke County, Oct. 10, 1903. He was the son of George and Margaret (FREEMAN) CARNS. He was married at Thayer, Iowa on March [7] 1923, to Estella REEVES.
He is survived by his widow; a son, Richard CARNS of Indiano1a, Iowa; two daughters, Mrs. Alexander (Violet) COOK of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Mrs. Robert (Shirley) LININGER of Diagonal, Iowa; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, Emmett CARNES of Portland, Ore; four sisters, Mrs. Bertha GUTHRIE of Salinas (sic, Escondido), Calif.; Mrs. Georgia NEISEMIER of Lorimor, Iowa; Mrs. Edith CLIFTON of Escondido, Calif.; and Mrs. Mary CONRAD of Creston, Iowa; a step-brother, Donald SAFFELL of Dallas, Tex.; and two step-sisters, Mrs. Francis WHITE of Waterloo, Iowa; and Mrs. Lucille BURCHETT of Escondido, Calif.
Mr. CARNS was a member of the Murray Christian church, Murray, Iowa, and of the Afton Masonic lodge Afton, Iowa.
Funeral services for Leo F. CARNS, 69, of St. Petersburg, Fla., were held at 1:30 p.m. today at the McKasson funeral home here. Rev. Lyle S. DUNHAM officiated. Music was by Mrs. Harold SYMONDS, organist, who played "Abide with Me" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere."
Casket bearers were Robert CONRAD, Jim HOFFMAN, Fred NEISEMIER, Robert GRANDFIELD, Clarence NEISEMIER and Leo NEISEMIER. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery at Shannon City, Iowa.
