OBITUARY - CHARLES FRANCIS FOSTER

March 4, 1919 - January 1, 2010

Charles Francis FOSTER, 90, of Clinton, Missouri, passed away January 1, 2010, at the Veteran’s Home in Warrensburg, Missouri. Funeral services were held January 5, 2010.

Charles was born March 4, 1919 in Mount Ayr, Iowa, the son of Hugh and Lena (WALTER) FOSTER. He graduated from Mount Ayr high school in 1937 and was drafted into the service April 1941 and headed to Algeria, North Africa. In February 1943 he was captured by the Germans and taken POW and taken back to Germany until escaping almost two years later. He arrived back in Mount Ayr in June 1945.

While in the service, Charles wrote to and received letters from Cleone RUMMAGE. They married September 3, 1945.

After attending the Kansas City School of Watch Making, they moved to Clinton, Missouri and made their home there.

Charles enjoyed fly-fishing at Bennett Springs, Missouri, camping with Cleone and helping with the POW organization.

He is survived by his wife, Cleone, Windsor Care Center, Windsor, Missouri; his daughter, Connie (Ken) EASTER of Clinton, Missouri; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Jackson (Theressa) FOSTER of Oskaloosa, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Dorothy LOUDON of Boone, Iowa.
