OBITUARY - LEROY SCHLAPIA

Leroy SCHLAPIA, 94, of Creston died January 1, 2005, at Greater Community Hospital in Creston.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 4, at First Baptist Church in Creston. The Rev. Robert SAUSER will officiate the service. Burial will be in Diagonal Cemetery. There is no visitation. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Creston. Memorials may be directed to Creston Nursing and Rehab Center. Wilson-Watson and Armstrong Funeral Home in Diagonal has charge of arrangements.

Mr. SCHLAPIA, son of Ruth Madge (BEEN) and Owen Lee SCHLAPIA, was born November 10, 1919, near Benton. He graduated from Benton High School in 1929. On April 11, 1933, he married Hazel Jane CROSS in Mount Ayr. He was a farmer. He was a member of the United Church of Diagonal, former member of the Benton School Board and former leader of the Lincoln Hotshots 4-H Club.

Survivors include a son, Larry (wife Mary Lee) SCHLAPIA of Creston; two sisters, Marjorie JESSEN of Creston and Wanda LORENZ of Adel; two grandsons, Carlon (wife LaVon) SCHLAPIA and Aaron SCHLAPIA, all of Creston; great-granddaughters Lindsey and Jessie HEBARD; great-great-grandson Bradley HEBARD; brother-in-law Gene (wife Martha) CROSS of Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters-in-law, Patty SCHLAPIA of Creston and June SCHLAPIA of Stillman Valley, Calif.; and friend Thelma LUDDINGTON of Creston.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife November. 27, 1986; three brothers, Hugh, Francis and Harry SCHLAPIA; sister Ruth PAGE; two nephews, Jerry and Gary SCHLAPIA; five brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law.
