The Ringgold Record, 1892

OBITUARY.

On Saturday, June 25th I was invited to conduct the funeral of the infant child of my friends Mr. and Mrs. Elmer SCHLAPIA. The services were held at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Josiah JARVIS. The corpse lay in a beautiful walnut casket. A few friends had gathered to sympathize with the parents and relatives. It is said there is something beautiful in the death of an old and good man who is gathered to his fathers like a shock of corn fully ripe in its season. There is also something beautiful in the death of an infanat which is plucked like a bud before it is faded or worm eaten, and before its fragrance is wasted, plucked to adorn and perfume the bosom of the Master. The Gospel tells us the child sleepeth and shall wake again at the last day. After brief services, the remains of Goldie J., a bright and only child, weeks weeks and one day old, were taken to the cemetery at Enterprise [Benton Cemetery] for interment.
