ROBERT ALLEN "BOB" SCHAFER

Robert Allen SCHAFER of Mount Ayr died September 10, 2007 at the Ringgold County Hospital.

Robert, son of Roy "Foxy" Schafer and Mildred (GINN) SCHAFER, was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1926, on his Grandma & Grandpa GINN’s farm near Lenox. He grew up in the Lenox, Stringtown, and Kent area where he attended high school in Lenox. He worked for his dad on the family farm until 1942 when he served in the armed forces, saw action in WW II, was placed on the reserve list, and then served his country in the Korean War where he received the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Star and the United Nations Service Medal. He was released from active military service August 1952 as a Sgt. 1st Class.

On Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 27, 1952, he married Wilma Mae BRAND and they lived in the Mount Ayr area for 54 years.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma SCHAFER, of Mount Ayr; 2 sons Allen (wife Kris) SCHAFER of Christensburg, Virginia and Duane (wife Janelle) SCHAFER of Mount Ayr; 4 daughters Vickie (husband Rick) ANDREWS of Lawrence, KS, Kathy (husband Syd) COMER of Mount Ayr, Becky (husband Randy) ANDREWS of Benton, and Amy (husband Ron) FRANKLIN of Pleasant Hill, MO; 17 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; brother Bill (wife Wilma) SCHAFER of Prescott and a sister Helen SCHAFER of Mount Ayr; brothers & sisters-in-law Clyde (Rosie) Brand, Earl BRAND, Lois TRIGGS, Paul (Georgia) Brand, Lee (Shirley) BRAND, Jean (Lyle) GILLILAND all of Mount Ayr and Betty (Jim) SCHMITZ of Gorin, MO.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents Frederick Roy SCHAFER and Mildred Frances (GINN) SCHAFER; sister Lois Ann Swanke; parents-in-law Lewis & Madge BRAND; brothers-in-law Walter COBB, Ainslee TRIGGS, Harold & Dean BRAND; sister-in-law Margaret BRAND; nephews Mike & Ted MOFFITT; and a niece Judy SMITH.

Services were held Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. from Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home, Mount Ayr, Iowa.
