OBITUARY - VERN MARLER

Vern MARLER 86, of Danville and formerly of Creston died Monday, September 1, 2008, at Danville Care Center in Danville.

Born August 18, 1922, in Tingley, he was the son of Joseph Anderson and Gertie Beatrice (HATHAWAY) MARLER. On December 27, 1943, he married Helen Martha O'GRADY in Maloy. She died April 3, 2001.

Mr. MARLER farmed most of his life. He worked as a sand-mixer in the molding department at Wellman Dynamics in Creston from 1973 to 1984. He graduated from Tingley High School. He was active in the Cozy Campers Club. He enjoyed his woodworking shop where he made quilt racks, clocks, ornaments and magazine racks.

Survivors include three daughters, Jeanne K. STEWART of Burlington, Janice E. MARLER and Marilyn S. CAVANAUGH, both of Chariton; one son, Robert J. MARLER of Maryville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Thelma WHITSON of Creston; nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and one brother.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday at Pearson-Coen-Beaty Family Funeral Service in Creston where the family will receive friends.

The graveside funeral for Mr. MARLER will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Graceland Cemetery in Creston with the Rev. Joseph PINS officiating.

Memorials have been established for Danville Care Center and Great River Medical Center Hospice.
