OBITUARY - RUTH D. (DUKES) LEVERING

MANSFIELD, OH -- Former Mansfield resident Ruth D. LEVERING, 100, died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005, at Morrow County Hospital Extended Care Unit.

Ruth was born in Beaconsfield, Iowa, July 20, 1905, to William and Cora (HITCHCOCK) DUKES.

She moved to Morrow County, Ohio, in 1919 and graduated from Edison High School.

She received her bachelor of science degree from Ohio University and her master's degree from Colorado State University.

She married her husband, Floyd LEVERING in 1951, and was an elementary teacher for 37 years, having taught in county schools in Morrow County, city schools in Colorado and the last 10 years of teaching was in the Mansfield City Schools system, before retiring in 1967. She also taught one year in Japan at an Air Force base.

Following her retirement, she traveled to Alaska, Brazil, Mexico, Canada and Spain.

Ruth was a member of Colorado Teachers Organization, Ohio Teachers Association and Ridgeway First Church of God.

She is survived by her stepson and his wife, Wayne and Emily LEVERING of Frazeysburg; her nephew and his wife, David and Jackie DAVIS of Cardington; and their families.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd in 1992; stepdaughter, Shirley GRAY; and three sisters, Helen DUKES, Florence DAVIS and Alice DUKES.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Mount Gilead [OH]. Herlihy-Tinsman Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
