OBITUARY - CURTIS GLENN WILSON

Curtis Glenn WILSON, the son of Bert and Bessie (HOUSE) WILSON, was born March 3, 1929 in Allendale, MO and was the last of 10 kids. Curt served his country as a Corporal in the United States Army from 1950 to 1952. He was stationed in Marysville, CA for one year before transferring to Alaska where he finished his duty. Curt was honorably discharged from the Army in 1952.

On December 30, 1955, he married Donna Jean ROUSH at her parent’s house in Gravity, IA. Their first home was a small farm near the Iowa/Missouri state line. In 1956, Douglas Glenn, the first of three children was born. A daughter, Diane Lynne, followed 15 months later. In 1960 with the birth of David Dean, the family moved to a stock farm in Maloy, IA. The family spent 24 years on the Maloy farm, a place Curt loved. With 600 acres of land & 200 head of cattle, there was always plenty to do on the WILSON Farm. Diane was kept busy helping Donna in the kitchen, while Doug & Dave quickly learned to throw & cut calves under the instruction of Curt. He often said “he enjoyed farming because even if you didn’t get a good crop, you could always depend on the beef.” Curt was always fast to lend a helping hand to others. Living alongside a dirt road, often times in the winter, cars were stranded in the ditch beside the WILSON Farm, but they weren’t stranded long. Curt quickly pulled them back on to the road so they could be on their way toward their destination.

In 1983, with the economic struggles of farming, & the kids no longer in the house, Curt & Donna moved from Maloy to Creston, IA. It was there that Curt slowed down & Donna worked as an Avon representative. On nights when Donna was out delivering Avon, Curt was flooded by phone calls, most of them Avon customers. Curt was famous for silencing those phone calls by unhooking the telephone. During retirement, Curt spent the majority of his leisure time in one of three places: his garden, in a lawn chair watching his six grandchildren at sporting events, or in his garage making wood crafts. Many weekends he & Donna would load up the car with his handiwork to sell at craft shows in several different counties. Many friends & family members’ homes are decorated with his crafts to be treasured forever. With such a musical family, Curt & Donna were also kept busy following various family members’ country bands. Dave played drums for the Citizen’s Band & Nitelife. Doug played bass for the Family Affair & Cross Country. Curt & Donna weren’t shy about getting out on the dance floor & were often complimented on their dancing by other couples & spectators. Curt was a patient, hard working & compassionate man who always had time for his family & friends. He will be missed dearly by his family & all who knew him.
Curtis Glenn WILSON, 79 years, 9 months, 23 days, went to be with the Lord the morning of Dec. 26, 2008.
