OBITUARY.
Died: - On December 30th, 1885, Mrs. Elizabeth WHITE, at her late home in Mt. Ayr Iowa, aged 43 years.
In early life she joined the Christian church; shortly afterward she was thrown into Methodist society and changed her relation to that of the M. E. church, of which she remained a worthy member til her death. She was married to Dr. C. B. WHITE in 1871. In May 1884 they came from Fremont Ohio, their former home to this place.
Sister WHITE, by her superior social qualities and cheerful disposition won the hearts of many friends.
During her protracted illness she frequently expressed a desire for a brighter experience and a deliverance from any fears as to future destiny. Two weeks before her death she desired to commemorate the death and suffering of our Lord and Savior, and received the emblems of his broken body and shed blood. A few days afterward she again requested religious services at her bed-side in which she heartily joined in singing and praising the Lord, and talked to her family about her departure and their plans for the future and said to her pastor, "how consoling to know we shall meet again." She then fully realized the meaning of Paul's declaration "Oh Death where is thy sting; Oh grave where is thy victory," which words were selected as a funeral text. She left an affectionate husband and four children who keenly feel her absence. The bereft family have the sympathy of the church and community.
Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church, after which her remains were laid in the South-side [Rose Hill] Cemetery to await the promised resurrection.
Mother, now thy toils are over,
Fought the battle won the crown,
On lifes rough and stormy shore,
Thou hast laid thy burden down,
Grant her, Lord, eternal rest.
