OBITUARY.
James WATTS was born in the state of Indiana, August 17, 1796 and was united in marriage to Miss Sarah JOHNSTON at the age of 22. They raised a family of 12 children, only 6 of whom live to witness the sad news of the death of their aged and much beloved father. His oldest great grandchild being 17 years old. He lived to enjoy the happy privilege of seeing a large family of grand and great grandchildren, which he seemed to love very much for a man of so great an age. He became a member of the Baptist church when a boy, and we are glad to know that he held his integrity to the end of the race, until God said it was enough, come up higher and enjoy the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world, and like a shock of corn was he gathered home. He died at the home, of his son, George WATTS'. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. H. THARP and his body was laid to rest in the new cemetery north of Benton [Benton Cemetery].
NOTE: George WATTS, son of James and Sarah (JOHNSTON), was born on September 15, 1850, and died May 10, 1929 with interment at Benton Cemetery, Benton, Ringgold County, Iowa. George's wife Evaline (?) WATTS was born January 9, 1856, and died October 24, 1918 with interment beside her husband. Also interred at Benton Cemetery is Johnney WATTS, born in 1876, and died in 1901.
