IN MEMORIAM.

Miss Etta A. RODGERS died at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. N. RODGERS, of Monroe township, Saturday evening, Sept. 21, 1895, at 9 o'clock. She had been sick only a little over a week, and the news of her death came with such a shock to her many friends that they were seemingly stunned and could not realize the terrible truth.

She graduated last spring from our schools, and was up to the time of her sickness, teaching a term of school five miles from home. She drove to and from school both morning and evening, and this combined with her school duties, so told on her health that she was stricken down with an attack of typhoid fever. She became rapidly worse, and two days before her death was unconscious of her surroundings, and died without regaining consciousness.

Miss RODGERS was born in Elk Point, Union county, Dak., July 31, 1876. Her parents moved to this county when she was but two years old, and she has ever since resided here. She became a member of the Evangelical church while yet a child, and at the time of her death was, as ever, a faith-member of that body. She entered the Mt. Ayr schools several years ago, and successfully completed the course last spring when she graduated with high honors. Her sorrowing classmates and teachers ever remember her sunny, joyous disposition, and her unwavering loyalty to her friends.

The funeral was conducted at her home by Rev. A. W. LYTTLE, of Witt, at 10 o'clock Monday and the remains were then brought to Rose Hill cemetery for interment. Her class and teacher were present except four who are away attending school, and six of her young lady classmates acted as pall-bearers.

Her sorrowing parents, brother, and many relatives and friends have the sympathy of the entire community in this saddest of all afflictions. That one so young and full of promise should be struck down when just entering upon the active duties of life seems hard to bear, but her life, brief as it was, will be an incentive to much good, and a lasting influence.
