OBITUARY - BERNARD ARNOLD RICKER

Bernard Arnold RICKER died peacefully on September 20, 2007 at the Health Care Center in Mount Ayr, Iowa.

He was born on September 26, 1912 to David and Anna (LANGER) RICKER on the family farm near Diagonal, Iowa. His all time love of 72 years was Donna Mae (ROSENGRANT) RICKER, whom he married on January 9, 1935. They settled on a farm outside of Arispe, Iowa in 1937 where they lived all their lives prior to moving to the Health Care Center in 2004.

Bernard was a farmer all his life but also took up TV sales and service in the 1960’s. He was a family man who loved and was loved by not only his family but by all who knew him. He loved to pitch horseshoes and was the Iowa State Farmers Division Champion many times in the 1960’s and 1970’s. In September, 2005, he was inducted into the “Iowa Horseshoe Pitching Hall of Fame”.

Bernard, also lovingly known as “BooBoo” by many, will always be remembered for his “overalls”, for his kind and loving ways, and for his sense of humor. He always had a good story to tell and liked to refer to the year of 1912 as the year of two disasters . . . the sinking of the "Titanic" and his birth.

Bernard is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a grand-daughter, Shaunna (BROWN) DULY; a son-in-law, Howard “Bud” BROWN; and four brothers, Theodore, Edwin, Ernest, and Raymond.

He is survived by his sister, Eleanor EGELAND of Outing, MN; two daughters, Bernadene HOLST and husband Eugene of Omaha, NE, and Rayma BROWN of Naperville, IL; one son, Dave and wife Barb of Waukee, IA; 5 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Memorials are to the United Methodist Church in Arispe, Iowa.

Services were conducted on Monday, September 24, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. from United Methodist Church of Arispe, Iowa, with Rev. Karen GARRISON officiating. Musicians were Bonnie RIEPE and Don WILSON. Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Casket bearers were Luke RICKER, Clint RICKER, Alex PFLZGRAFF, Bradd BROWN, Carl OLSEn and Don SHERIDAN.

Bernard was laid at rest in the Bohemian Cemetery in Diagonal.
