OBITUARY - MRS. HANNAH RHOADES.

Hannah MORRIS RHOADES, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas MORRIS, was born in Beaver county, Pennsylvania, July 14, 1834, and departed this life August 26, 1931, at the ripe age of 97 years, one month and 12 days. Mrs. RHOADES was united in marriage with Samuel RHOADES April 3, 1856, and to this union were born seven children, all of whom are living. They are Mrs. J. H. SHANE of Durant, Okla., who is unable to be present having the care of an invalid husband; W. H. of St. Joseph; Mrs. Flem BUTLER of Mount Ayr; H. W. of Durant, Okla.; T. S.; J. B. and C. N. all of Mount Ayr.

In October, 1880, she with her husband and family came to Ringgold county, Iowa, settling on a farm twelve miles northeast of Mount Ayr. Here they lived for several years, after which they moved to Beaconsfield, then to Kellerton and later to Mount Ayr where Mrs. RHOADES spent the remainder of her life. On August 10, 1921, her husband passed away and since then she has been cared for in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fleming BUTLER, who with Mr. BUTLER have done all in their power to make her comfortable and happy in her loneliness, for no couple were ever more devoted than Grandfather and Grandmother RHOADES and since his going she has so often expressed her desire to be with him.

Grandmother RHOADES experienced some of the hardships and struggles of the early days, often reminiscing on the days of Fort Pitt and Indian warfare.

At the age of eleven years, when she joined the old Seceder church, she was presented a Bible by her parents, a gift she prized to the last. In her early married life, she with her husband transferred their membership to the Old School Presbyterian church and when moving to Mount Ayr, they placed their letter in the local Methodist church where she has since retained her membership. But the infirmities of the flesh have prevented her attendances at the church services. She was a good mother, always interested in the welfare of her children and she will be greatly missed from her accustomed place.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2:30 from the Rhoades Funeral Home, conducted by her pastor, Rev. E. S. MENOHER, assisted by Rev. Jesse JOHNSON of the United Presbyterian church and her body laid to rest by the side of her husband in Rose Hill cemetery in Mount Ayr.

Grandmother RHOADES is survived by her seven children, eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren who will miss her greatly, as well as a host of friends and neighbors.

NOTE: Samuel RHOADES, husband of Hannah (MORRIS) was born in 1833, and died August 10, 1921 with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa. Rebecca (RHOADES) BUTLER, daughter of Samuel and Hannah (MORRIS) RHOADES, was born on October 5, 1861, and died February 10, 1950 with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery.
