OBITUARY - MARVIN LEE REYNOLDS

Marvin Lee REYNOLDS, son of Orr "Pete" and Gladys REYNOLDS, was born January 22, 1926 in Mount Ayr, Iowa and departed this life on April 22, 2007 at the age of 81.

Marvin grew up in Ringgold County and attended Mount Ayr Community School. He joined the Marines when he was a junior in high school, following his brother Norman’s footsteps, who was serving in the Army. He wanted to do his part for his country. Marvin was proud to be a serviceman and shared many stories of those times of his life. When he returned from the service at the end of World War II, he went back to high school and finished his education, graduating in 1947. During that time, he married Colleen ANDERSON and they had three daughters; Cathy Laura, Carri Lee, and Debra Kay.

Marvin’s occupation was building and remodeling homes. He loved carpenter and mason work. Many people in Ringgold County have enjoyed the benefits of his talents.

In 1974, he was united in marriage to Helen MERRITT. Through this marriage, three children were added to his family; Beverly, Betty, and Richard. In 1978, Marvin and Helen moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico where they could pursue their passion for horses. In Las Cruces, they were active members of the Sheriff’s Posse. In 1985, they returned to Mount Ayr and continued raising horses. For several years, many of you have driven by Highway 2 in the spring and have taken view of their beautiful newborn colts and paint horses.

Marvin enjoyed life to the fullest with basketball, football, dancing, fishing, and bowling, but most of all, his love for his horses and dogs. He was an avid horseman throughout most of his life. He also spent hours in his home watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and the St. Louis Rams with Muffie and Pixie, two of his favorite dogs, by his side. For those of you who knew him well, he could shoot a mean game of pool. Especially those of you who played Snooker against him at the Dead Beat Club. Marvin was also a member of the American Legion and VFW.

Although Marvin enjoyed many things in life, including telling his many stories, nothing compared to his family. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, step-father, and grandfather. His family was the most important thing in his life.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Norman.

He is survived by his wife Helen of Mount Ayr, IA; his children Cathy & husband Wayne SHOESMITH of Carroll, IA, Carri DUCKWORTH of Van Wert, IA, Debra & husband Kenneth ROBERTSON of O’Fallon, MO, Beverly & husband Derald NOBLE of Mount Ayr, IA, Betty & husband Roger SCHLAPIA of Bellevue, NE, Richard MERRITT of Mount Ayr, IA; sister-in-law Dorothy REYNOLDS of Mt.
