FRANK K. REYNARD CALLED BY DEATH

Former County Attorney of Ringgold County Passes Away After Long Illness

After an illness of a year's duration, Frank K. REYNARD, former county attorney of Ringgold county and a resident of the county for fifty years, passed away at the hospital in Iowa City Wednesday, November 30. The end came peacefully. Mr. REYNARD had been in declining health for several years and his critical illness covered a period of about one year, during which, despite the best of medical treatment, he gradually declined.

The death of Mr. REYNARD marks the passing of a good citizen and one whose life was devoted to service. He came with his parents to Ringgold county when he was ten years of age; attended the country school in Benton township and worked on the farm until he was old enough to receive a certificate to teach school. After teaching in the rural schools several terms he entered the law school of the State University of Iowa, from which he was graduated in 1892, and the same year was nominated and elected to the office of county attorney of Ringgold county. He assumed the duties of the office in January, 1893, was twice re-elected to the office, and after six years' service retired from office and established himself in the practice of law in Mount Ayr. Twenty years later he was again called to serve in the office of county attorney and served two terms. Mr. REYNARD's record as county attorney was one of consistent and conscientous effort to enforce the laws without fear and favor.

The funeral service, which was held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 at the Methodist church, being conducted by the pastor, Rev. Jay KIRKENDALL, was largely attended and the floral offerings were profuse and beautiful. The funeral service of the I.O.O.F. lodge, of which Mr. REYNARD was a worthy member, was conducted at the church, being in charge of Alva CAMPBELL as noble grand of Mount Ayr Lodge No. 169. Interment was in Rose Hill cemetery.

The following obituary was read at the funeral service: Frank Kimberland REYNARD was born in Smithfield, Jefferson county, Ohio, September 1, 1866, and died November 30, 1927, at the State University of Iowa hospital, Iowa City, Iowa, aged 61 years, two months and 29 days. He lived with his parents on the farm until 1877, when they moved to Ringgold county where he has ever since resided. From 1878 to 1890 he lived in Benton township, helping his parents on the farm and attending winter schools until he became of sufficient age to begin teaching. He followed the latter occupation about seven years, continuing to help on the farm during the summer. In 1890 he commenced a law course in the Iowa State University, graduating in 1892. In the fall of that year he was elected to the position of county attorney, at that time serving three terms and again acting in that capacity from 1919-1922. On May 9, 1893, he was united in marriage to Helen FRESHWATER. To this union was born one daughter, Mrs. Floyd HARDY, of Missouri Valley, Iowa, and five sons, John, Loren and Paul, at home, William and Ray having passed away in infancy.

Besides his wife and children he leaves to mourn his death one sister, Mrs. Mary SEARGEANT, of Fort Morgan, Colo., and one brother, Joseph REYNARD, of Barnard, S.D., also a host of friends.

For the past year Mr. REYNARD has been in poor health. Everything that medical skill could do was done to help him, but failing to respond to treatment of any kind, he passed peacefully away, November 30, 1927.
