OBITUARY - MRS. E. P. REED.

With reverence, born of respect for a noble christian life, Mount Ayr community received Sunday announcement of the death of Mrs. E. P. REED, who passed peacefully away at the home in south Mount Ayr after several months of suffering from heart disease. She was 71 years, seven months, and 13 days old. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 at the Methodist church, being conducted by the pastor, Rev. E. S. MENOHER, and the body was laid to rest in Rose Hill cemetery [Mount Ayr]. The large attendance at the funeral and many floral tributes bore silent testimony to the high regard in which the departed was held in the community.

Lucy H. MILLER, daughter of James R. and Martha MILLER, was born in Cleveland, Ohio, January 24, 1859. During the civil war the family lived in Michigan while the father was in the service. They then moved to Davenport, Iowa, where they lived four years, after which they returned to Cleveland.

In 1876 she came with the family to Monroe county, Iowa. Two years later, in 1878, she came to Ringgold county, where she has spent the remainder of her life. Soon after she arrived in Ringgold county she began teaching in the public schools and served in this capacity 10 years.

On the 25th of March, 1884, she was united in marriage with E. P. REED, since which time they have made their home in the vicinity of Mount Ayr.

She united with the Methodist Episcopal church at High Point under the pastorate of Rev. W. B. THOMPSON. Since that time she has been actively connected with church work at Wishard Chapel and Mount Ayr. For twelve years she was secretary of the Ringgold County Sunday School Association.

During the world war she was a member of the county committee of the Red Cross and an active member of the local chapter.

During her whole life she very much enjoyed her intellectual activities. This taste was expressed in active membership in the Mount Ayr Monday club for nearly thirty years, her connection with the local chapter of the P.E.O. since 1906, her constant work in the Sabbath school and her wide personal study, the fruits of which were always shared with her family and friends.

In her immediate family she is survived by her husband, her daughter Floy and her husband, J. A. BLISS, and two children, Helen Betty and Horace Reed. She also leaves two brothers, H. A. MILLER of Ottumwa, Iowa, and Will MILLER of Colorado. Two sisters and one brother preceded her in death.

Among other relatives who have been particularly close to her are Mrs. A. A. ROBINSON, Albia; Mrs. Wm. CALDWELL, Centerville; R. R. STEPHENS, Mount Ayr; Mrs. Laura BLISS, Diagonal; Mrs. W. K. DeSELM, Cambridge, Ohio; Mrs. D. W. COX, Poland, Ohio, and Mrs. Sarah C. REED, Ralston, Iowa.
