The Mount Ayr Record-News, 1927

OBITUARY - MRS. ALFRED G. EIGHME.

Mrs. Jennie EIGHME, daughter of J. L. and Martha ROWE, passed away at her home near Tingley, Monday morning, October 24, 1927. Mrs. EIGHME was born at Alpha, Ill., October 10, 1875. She came to Iowa with her parents in March, 1884. They lived for a number of years north of Mount Ayr. Later returned to Galesburg, Ill., where on December 24, 1895, she was united in marriage to Alfred G. EIGHME. To this union three sons were born, two preceding her in death, one in infancy, November 9, 1900, and George April 10, 1919. Those who remain to mourn her death are her husband, Alfred G., and her son, Rowe L. of Tingley, and the little granddaughters, Rowena and Ardent. Other relatives are her mother, Mrs. Martha ROWE, of Long Beach, Calif, and brother, Charles, and family, also of Long Beach, Calif., besides a host of other relatives and friends.

At a tender age Jennie was converted and joined the Church of Christ, of which she remained a member until her death. Although for a number of years she was unable to attend church owing to ill health, she never lost interest in the church and Sabbath school, doing all within her power to help and encourage others in the good work.

She was gentle and unassuming. Her earnest christian character and devotion to her family were an inspiration to all who knew her. In her youth she was a singer and musician and this was a great source of comfort during the years of her semi-invalidism. We are sad at her going away, but we think of her as singing with the angels:

"Still, still with thee, when purple morning breaketh,
When the bird waketh and the shadows flee;
Fairer than the morning, lovelier than daylight,
Dawns the sweet consciousness,
I am with thee."

Funeral services were held yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon at two o'clock at Wishard chapel, being conducted by Rev. W. Harold SMITH, pastor of the Mount Ayr Church of Christ, and interment was in Rose Hill cemetery.

Card of Thanks.

We are profoundly grateful to our neighbors and friends for every kindness snown during the illness and on the occasion of the death and funeral of our wife and mother.

ALFRED G. AND ROWE EIGHME.
