OBITUARY - WILLIAM CAVIN, Sr.

Uncle William CAVIN, as he has long been known in Mt. Ayr and vicinity, died on Sunday, October 29th, 1893, aged 79 years, 1 month and 12 days. His death was the result of old age, and the infirmities coming from his army life. Mr. CAVIN was born September 17th, 1814, and in the State of Kentucky. He spent some of his life in Indiana. When that state directed that the remains of those who had falled at the battle of Tippecanoe, should be reinterred, Mr. CAVIN was placed on the commission to perform that duty. [William H. CAVIN, Sr. served as a private with Company I of the 35th Indian Volunteer Infantry Regiment.] He participated in many of the stirring scenes of those days. He first married Hester RODGERS. They had six children, three of whom are now living. On February 26th, 1856 he married Mrs. [Mary DOLBEE] IMUS. They had one son, Wm. CAVIN Jr. Mr. CAVIN served in the Union army, and received a severe wound at the battle of Pea Ridge. It gave him trouble from time to time, and but recently, the bullet inflicting the would, was taken from his body. He had carried it all these years. Mr. CAVIN came to Ringgold county in 1857. He has been a member of the M. E. church for fifty years. His late years have been spent in retirement in Mt. Ayr.

The funeral took place from the M. E. church on Tuesday, Oct. 31st, 1893, at 10 a.m., conducted by Rev. C. L. NYE. [Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr.]
