OBITUARY - ABRAHAM JONAS BRETZ

Abraham Jonas BRENTZ was born in Dolphine (sic) county, Pennsylvania, June 27, 1833, and at the age of three years he moved with his parents to Holmes county, Ohio. In 1853 he left Ohio, moving to Iowa, where he lived ever since except two years in Kansas. He departed this life April 6, 1923, aged eighty-nine years, ten months and twenty days.

He was married June 5, 1860, to Mary Ann PAYTON. Eleven children were born to this union - five sons and six daughters - Joseph V., Willard M., Frederick V., George A. and Samuel T., Cora M., Millie Jessie, Elizabeth C. BRETZ, Eva CHENDON of San Francisco, Calif., Mary E. DUFFEY, Addie F. HOLLINGSHED of Osgood, Colo. Mrs. ASHENDON and Mrs. HOLLINGSHEAD are the only children left to mourn his loss. He also leaves two sisters, Elizabeth A. VORHIES of Cohocton, Ohio, and Esther Sarah NOLAND of Chariton, Iowa. Mrs. NOLAND has been with her brother all through his illness and was with him at the time of his death.

Mr. BRETZ was brought up in a christian home and under christian parents. His father was a minister of the Church of God. Mr. BRETZ himself accepted the faith and became a member of the Christian church of Tingley.

NOTE: Abraham was interred at Tingley Cemetery, Tingley, Ringgold County, Iowa.
