Receives recognition for life saving actions

A sixth-grade Mount Ayr youth, credited with saving his choking grandfather earlier this year, has received recognition from the United States House of Representatives.

Cameron (Mickael) Charter was honored by Third District Representative David Young with a certificate and letter that Young read into the Congressional Record on April 14 on the floor of the House of Representatives.

The letter read, "Mr. Speaker, I rise today to recognize and honor the heroic actions of sixth-grader, Cameron Michael of Mount Ayr, Iowa. On a recent Sunday night, Cameron was eating dinner with his grandmother, Cinday, and Grandfather Charles, when a piece of food became lodged in his grandfather's throat. Charles was trying to apply the Heimlich to himself with no success. It was then that Cameron stepped in. Cameron jumped up, grabbed his grandfather and performed the Heimlich. Charles credits Cameron with saving his life.

"Mr. Speaker, it is a great honor to represent future leaders like Cameron in the United States Congress and it is with great pride that I applaud his life-saving effort today. I invite my colleages in the House to join me in congratulating Cameron, thanking him for a job well done, and wishing him a bright future. Thank you."
