1898H. H. WILSON'S GROCERY.
The above two-story and basement brick business house was erected by H. H. WILSON in 1891 at a cost of $6000. It is 90x22 feet in size and a very handsome structure, indeed one of the most imposing and attractive bsuiness buildings in the city. The basement is occupied by R. F. MORFORD'S barber shop and the second story by M. G. MAXWELL's photographic studio in the north rooms while SMITH & MOORE are cozily situated with their law office in the south rooms. Mr. WILSON himself occupies the entire first floor and two-thirds of the basement with his large and well selected stock of staple and fancy groceries, and does the heaviest business of any grocer i the county. The building was erected with the view of accommodating the foregoing lines of business, hence is just adapted to the needs.
Mr. WILSON came to Mt. Ayr in July, 1879, and embarked in the grocery business, continuing the same line of trade ever since. He first commenced in the frame building on the west side now occupied by Mrs. McKAHAN as a millinery store, then moved to the frame building just south of the NEWS and occupied by GROUT & HUFFMAN's meat market but which then stood where the above elegant building now does on the north side of the square. Mr. WILSON is considered one of the most successful business men of the county.
