I located a couple of obituaries for you. Ruby Violet Friend died from appendicitis. Hope this helps.
FRIEND —Died at the home of her parents, 407 A avenue west, Saturday, Jan. 25, 1908, at 3:30 p. m., of appendicitis, after ten days' suffering, Ruby Violet Friend, aged 13 years, 6 months and 7 days. The remains were shipped to New Sharon Monday morning at seven o'clock and funeral services were held at the Christian church in New Sharon and interment in New Sharon cemetery. Rev. Cornell conducted the funeral services. The deceased is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Friend, one brother Frank Friend and four sisters, Mrs. John Packwood, Cleo Friend, Mrs. Myrtle Fisher and Leila Friend.

FRIEND — Ruby Friend, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Friend, was born in this county July 18, 1894, and died at the home of her parents in Oskaloosa Jan. 25, 1908, after an illness of nine days, aged 13 years, 6 months and 7 days. She was a dutiful, obedient girl, loved by all, a student in the 7th grade of the Oskaloosa schools, and a member of the Junior Endeavor of the Christian church in Oskaloosa. The funeral services were conducted from the Christian church Monday at 2:00 p. m., A. B. Cornell preaching the sermon.
