In Response To: Brooklyn "Noxalls" (Pat Hochstetler)

Hi Pat, I believe we have "met" before through our family genealogy, right?

I had reason to go to the library today and I searched newspapers for this ball team while there. I believe I found what you are searching for: An announcement was made in the May 3, 1895 Brooklyn Chronicle announcing a meeting for anyone interested in forming a baseball team. The meeting was held the following week with Dr. A. E. Anger being elected temporary manager, N. Owens, secretary and T. C. Lewis, treasurer. A list was circulated and about fifty signatures were obtained guaranteeing the payment of one dollar per month in case of accidents. A later article says that the club was organized May 30th.
In following articles it does call the team the Noxalls, so I'm sure I have the correct group.
Names mentioned in articles are Duryea (pitcher), Collum, Umpire Powell, Gross, Ben Robinson, Leonard, Wright, Myers, Anson, Williby, and Shaffer. No first names but that one.
A baseball social was held on August 2 and the last article was in the Aug. 22nd paper: "The Brooklyn baseball club for the season of 95 is a thing of the past. At a meeting of the managers Monday the business was closed up and the team disbanded. This action was taken because it was simply impossible to get teams here who could put up a meritorious game without incurring expenses greater than the means would justify. The boys have played fifteen games since their organization and won the same number. A clean 1,000 percent to their credit. Its a great record and the boys have a right to feel proud."
We at the Pow. Co. Historical & Gene. Society would love to have the photo since we have the history of the team. The Brooklyn Historical Society also has reason to have this picture. If you should decide to send the original to Brooklyn, would you consider emailing me a copy of it for our records since I have researched it?
