SCHOENING

Would like more information on a Poweshiek County veteran who was killed in Italy during WWII. Would like to confirm the Date of Death for George F. Schoening (Army Serial Number 37 043 498). It is believed that Schoening was serving as a technician 4th grade (Tec 4) with Service Battery - 185th Field Artillery Battalion - 34th Division when he was killed in action on or about 03-Jan-1944. It is believed that Schoening's body was returned to the US after the war (1946 - 1949) and may have been reburied in or around the Poweshiek County area.

This information will be used to help complete the listings of wartime death casualties for units of the 34th Division. These listings can be viewed at the webpage address below.
