died at 29, but how?

I would like to know how my gg-grandfather died at age 29. He is buried in Crown Hill Cemetery. His wife was Amy.

David H. Quivey Born Approx 1850 in New York and died Aug 1, 1880 - one month after the 1880 census that reported him being a "border" and occupation brakeman.
