HOLD SERVICES FOR BEAN

Oliver Wylie Bean, 92, of 515 Eleventh Ave., Grinnell, died Saturday evening, Oct. 6, at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. James P. Russell, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner, and vocalists were Wilma Schmitz and Ruth Ann Dayton. Pallbearers were Philip Armstrong, John F. Bierman, Ellis L. Brown, William Bryan, Wilbur Eyestone, and Homer L. McDonough. Honorary pallbearers were Lawrence E. Breneman, Howard Hafkey, Arthur O. McDowell, John W. McIlrath, James C. McNally and Clair G. Strand.

Burial was at Hazelwood Cemetery. Should friends desire, memorials in Mr. Bean's name may be made to the Grinnell United Methodist Church.

The son of Irvin A. and Katherine Dimit Bean, he was born April 21, 1887, in Chester Township. He attended the Grinnell schools. On March 4, 1914, he was married to Mary Carlstrom. The couple farmed in the Chester and Grinnell area for 50 years before retiring from the farm and building their home in town.

Mr. Bean was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church and the church men's club. He served on the church board and was an usher for many years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, on Nov. 5, 1977; his parents; one brother; and two sisters. There are no immediate survivors.
