In his remarks at the funeral Rev. Mr. Wissler said:

"Another old settler, a long time resident of Chester township, has answered the last call. I.A. Bean's was one of the most familiar faces and he was one of the best known citizens of Chester. He did not figure in any conspicuous way, but was a very modest and quiet mannered man.

"He came to Chester in the fall of 1868 and made his home in Chester since that time. Here he met Miss Catherine Dimit who became his wife almost fifty years ago, and who preceded him in death Sept. 17, 1926.

"Mr. Bean became a member of the Congregational church of Chester many years ago and lived a faithful Christian through all the years.

"He was born in Mercer County, Ill., April 7, 1847, and died at Community Hospital, Grinnell, April 16, 1927, aged 80 years and 9 days. He leaves to mourn his loss two daughters, Mrs. George Hafkey of Chester and Miss Pearl Bean at home, and two sons, Ralph Bean, who is in the west, and Oliver Bean, living north of Grinnell."
