MRS. SARAH THOMSON MCBETH

Sarah Thomson was born in Ohio in 1814 and departed this life June 6, 1904.

At the age of seventeen she was united in marriage to William Roseman also of Ohio.

Twelve children were born to them, six of whom, three sons and three daughters are left to mourn the loss of a dear old mother.

In 1847, she and her husband and family moved to Iowa settling at Fairport, east of Muscatine. Two years later they moved to Davenport where they resided till the death of her husband in the spring of 1860.

She remained a widow for eleven years, when she married Ezekiel McBeth of Davenport and lived with him twenty-three years, when he preceded her to the better world in 1894. Early in life she became a christian and a member of the Methodist church and although of late years the infirmities of old age prevented her attendance at services, her faith and belief in His power to save continued to the end.

She was patient, kind and cheerful and always tried to look on the bright side and was always ready to help any one she could.

During the last ten years of her life she made her home with her sons and daughters. Seven years ago she went to Southern Missouri to visit a daughter whom she had not seen for over twenty years and remained with her a year.

In April a year ago she came to Grinnell to live with her daughter Mrs. J. Wisecarver with whom she resided till the close of her life.

Her funeral services were conducted at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the residence of J. Wisecarver by the M.E. pastor, Rev. J.M. McClelland and her remains were followed by a large number of friends and neighbors to Hazelwood Cemetery where they were laid to rest.
