Funeral services for Jim Van Donselaar, 44, of Grinnell, who died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, were held Monday, Nov. 3, at Grace Community Church in Grinnell. Rev. Josh Johnson and Rev. Robert Zirkelbach officiated at the services. Music was provided by Nancy Toppenburg, organist and Jessica, Joshua and Michael Van Donselaar, vocalists.

Interment was at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. Casketbearers were Darrell Allen, Lee Huff, Jim Mathes, Tim O'Neal, Glenn Speas, Calvin Thrasher, Joshua, Michael and Nathan Van Donselaar. Flower bearers were Christy, Janelle and Jessica Van Donselaar.

Jim was born on September 2, 1959, in Grinnell, to Gordon and Lois (Huff) Van Donselaar. He was raised in Grinnell and attended schools in Grinnell and Montezuma. He also attended Venard College in University Park.

He lived in Grinnell and worked in the maintenance department at Friendship Manor for several years. Later, he operated a painting and repair business and lived near Bussey. In 1995 he returned to Grinnell and assisted his family with their farming operation.

He was a member of the Northside Evangelical Methodist Church of Grinnell. He enjoyed pheasant hunting, fishing, church archery league and collecting firearms.

He was preceded in death by a brother, John Van Donselaar.

He is survived by his parents, Gordon and Lois Van Donselaar of Grinnell; a brother, Roger Van Donselaar of Grinnell; and six nieces and nephews.

A memorial in his name will be established.

Arrangements were made by Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.
