June 06, 1936 - May 16, 2011Phillip Messer, 74 of Montezuma, IA and formerly of Winfield and Ft. Madison passed away Monday, May 16, 2011 at his home at Lake Ponderosa. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, May 20, 2011 with visitation beginning at 1:00 P.M. until the time of service. Interment will be held in the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in East Pleasant Plain, Iowa.
Phillip was born June 6, 1936, the son of Chester Earl Messer and Carrie Alter Messer in Henry County, Iowa. He was a graduate of Pleasant Plain High School and University of Iowa Pharmacy College. On June 11, 1955, he married Jean A. Supalla in East Pleasant Plain. He was a Regional and District Manager of Mays Drug and Super X Drug. He owned Your Super Drug in Ft. Madison and Mt. Pleasant, IA. Upon retirement in 2002, he was the Pharmacy Supervisor at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Iowa City, IA.
Phillip loved his family and granddaughters. He was a member of the National Guard and Reserves, Lions, Elks and Knights of Columbus. Phillip enjoyed hunting, fishing, was an avid Iowa Hawkeye, New York Yankee and Dallas Cowboy fan. He enjoyed spending time at his lake home with family.
He is survived by his daughter Crystalyn Messer, Urbandale, IA., son, Stephen (Sharon) Messer, Pleasant Hill, IA., daughter Kimberlyn Messer, Urbandale, IA., granddaughters Kaytlyn and Lisa Messer, Pleasant Hill, IA. Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, wife and daughters: Colleen, Jacquelyn and two sons, Steven Craig and Joseph, and his sister Ardith Neff. ~ The Holland-Coble Funeral Home, Montezuma, IA 16 May 2011.
