Gary McCammant, 39, of 106 Broad St., Grinnell, died of apparent natural causes while working his trap line near Rock Creek Lake in Jasper County Saturday morning.
Funeral services will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home with burial at Hazelwood Cemetery.
A memorial in Mr. McCammant's name has been established, and friends may contact the funeral home for additional information.
The son of the late Raymond W. McCammant and Alice Bernice Figland, he was born Oct. 28, 1942, in Grinnell. He attended Grinnell schools. During the Vietnam conflict, he served with the U.S. Army.
He was married to Sheryl Sue Pierce on July 3, 1971 in Rock Island, Ill. The couple lived in Grinnell. Mr. McCammant was employed in the building construction field.
He was a member of the American Legion, the B.P.O. Elks Lodge and the Eagles Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Sheryl; three children, Tracy, Tammy and Ted; his step-father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Barkema; and three sister's, Joyce Eilander of Albia, Janet McCammant of West Burlington and Judy Gillette of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his father and an infant brother.
