JAMES BERMAN

James Berman, 80, of Des Moines, formerly of Grinnell, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2006, at Iowa Health Hospice Taylor House in Des Moines.

His body was cremated and no services are planned. Hamilton's Altoona Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He was born Nov.16, 1925, in Grinnell to Rifka and Samuel Berman. He was a 1946 graduate of Grinnell High School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War until his honorable discharge in August of 1956.

He and his brother, Isadore ran a scrap metal business in Grinnell for many years. He moved to Des Moines in the late 1960s. After retiring in 1985, he moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, for 15 years before returning to Iowa in 2001.

He is survived by his children, David Berman of Sacramento, Calif., Sara Dreyer of Altoona, Donna Evans of Merrifield, Minn., and Daniel Berman of Sun Prairie, Wis.; seven grandchildren and two brothers, Isadore Berman of Grinnell and Milton Berman of Jacksonville, Fla. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra L. Berman and one brother, Harry Berman.
