MARIANA DUEY

WAVERLY - Marianna Duey, 95, of Clive, Iowa, and formerly of Waverly, died Friday, July 1, 2016, at her residence at Woodlands Creek Retirement Center in Clive, Iowa, of natural causes.

Marianna was born on April 11, 1921, in Grinnell, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Blanche (Meacham) Brown. She graduated from Grinnell High School in 1939 and Iowa State University in 1943.

On May 5, 1944, she was united in marriage to L.J. Duey in Oakland, California, where L.J. was stationed with the U.S. Marine Corps. he couple lived in Ames, Newton , Allison, Grinnell and Waverly. She worked in financial aid in both Grinnell College and Wartburg College. In February of 1966, the family moved to an acreage northeast of Waverly. L.J. died on June 20, 1988, and Marianna continued to live in Waverly until 2009, when she moved to Clive, Iowa.

Marianna had been an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she sang in the church choir. Her memberships included: AAUW, Chester Royal Grange, Amvets Auxiliary, Waverly Hospital Auxiliary, Dairy Spot Riders, and Eastern Star where she had served as Worthy Matron. She had a love for music and was an accomplished pianist and organist. Among her favorite games to play was Bridge.

Marianna is survived by her three sons, Philip (Nancy) Duey of Adel, Iowa, Dr. Jerry (Joyce) Duey of Clinton, Iowa and Robert (Lottie) Duey of Springfield, Oregon; 8 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Joyce in infancy; husband, L.J. Duey; sister, Dorothy Sherman; brothers, George and Stanley Brown.

Graveside services will be held at 12:00 on Friday, July 8, 2016, at Harlington Cemetery in Waverly, with Pastor Jon Duey officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly. Memorials may be directed to the family and on-line condolences may be left at www.kaisercorson.com.
