DORIS E. (FLAHERTY) WENTZEL

Doris E. Wentzel, 86, of Kewanna passed away Sunday evening at Miller's Merry Manor in Culver, Indiana, surrounded by her loving family.

Doris was born on August 3, 1928 in Brooklyn, Iowa to James A. and Xavie (Benton) Flaherty. The family moved o Chicago, Illinois where she attended Harrison High School.

On June 7, 1947 she married Robert H. Wentzel and moved into their current home, which Bob built (including furniture and cupboards), on the family farm at Kewanna. He preceded her in death July 15, 1998.

Doris held numerous jobs outside the home, mostly bookkeeping, working for the Fulton County Auditor, Armoire Creamery, Kewanna Grain Elevator, Kewanna Lumber Company, Kewanna Plumbing and Heating, CFS at Leiers Ford and Kewanna and finally retiring in 1995 from Frick Services in Leiters Ford.

Doris, an avid lover of antiques (rarely missing an episode of Antiques Roadshow), dishes, newspaper clippings, and dogs and cats is survived by her sons, Gary (Janice) of Kewanna, Alan (Bea) of Kewanna and Jim (Linda) of Leiters Ford; 8 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and her younger brother, James B. Flaherty of LaOtto, IN.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister, Elaine R. Oldt, niece, Sandra Oldt and her baby daughter, Lori.

Doris was a member of the Rochester Moose, Ladies Auxiliary VFW of Culver and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Doris had a kind heart and an open home-taking in friends, family, dogs and cats whenever a home was needed. She loved to laugh, enjoyed bawdy jokes, although she could not remember the punch line when she tried to repeat them. Something that made us laugh often more than the joke itself. We will all miss her.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, January 2, 2015 at Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Homes, 123 E. Main Street, Kewanna.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the funeral home. Rev. David Smitley will officiate. Burial will follow at Bruce Lake Cemetery.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Fulton County Animal Center, 1540 Wentzel St., Rocheser, IN 46975.
