OPAL R. EMAL, 92

A funeral service for Opal Rinehart Emal, 92, of Deep River, was held Wednesday, May 21, at Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma with Pastor Boyd Sparks of the United Church of Deep River officiating and Mr. David McPherren speaking. Interment was at Golden Rod Cemetery in Deep River.

Casket bearers were Matt McPherren, Eric McPherren, Dan McPherren, Robert Whitten, Jason Sayre, Ryan White and Marshall "Sam" McPherren.

Opal was bon August 1, 1910, to Earl and Flora Alda Rinehart Rose. Opal was the third of seven children. She was born on a farm near Guernsey and went to school in Guernsey. After high school, Opal went to teachers' college in Cedar Falls. Upon completion, she taught country school south of Deep River. Opal was united in marriage with Clyde Goebel Emal of Deep River on Oct. 8, 1933. They lived in Deep River until 1954 when they moved to Henderson, Nevada. While there, Opal was employed as a school cafeteria supervisor in Las Vegas. She returned to Deep River in 1995.

She is survived by her sister, Elsie Besse of Cincinnati, Iowa; her son, Ron Emal and wife, Carol of Deep River; her daughter, Rosemary Sayre and husband Bill of Elgin, Ill.; stepdaughter De Loris and husband David McPherren of Green Valley, Ariz. and by grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde, in February 1973; her father in August 1954; her mother in July 1954; brothers Rex in December 1991 and Quentin in June 1987; sisters Nina Bahr in June 2002; Donnabelle Williams in April 1997 and Merna Cordes in May 1992.
