DEAN H. THOMPSON

Dean H. Thompson, 86, of Grinnell died Sunday, Jan. 17, at Friendship Manor.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tim Stewart, pastor of the Grinnell First Baptist Church, officiating. Organist was Denise Baustian. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

He was born Oct. 31, 1912, in Lincoln, Neb., to Charlie and Nannie Cusick Thompson. The family moved to Malcom where he attended school.

He was married to Merle O. Hatfield Feb. 19, 1939, in Chariton. They lived in Cicero, Ill., until 1947 when they moved to Grinnell.

Mr. Thompson worked as a construction lineman for the former Iowa Southern Utilities Co. for 30 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Elks Lodge.

Survivors include his son, Joe of Milwaukee, Wis.; three grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Davis of Grinnell and Berval Walton of Toledo; and one brother, Marion of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; one sister, Leota Dee, and two brothers, Cecil and Ralph Thompson.
