JAMES (JIM) SLEBISKA
October 24, 1944-August 13, 2018

Jim passed away suddenly Monday, August 13, 2018, at home. He was 74. Jim was a graduate of Grinnell High School and attended the University of New Mexico. Jim worked as a union carpenter, then went on to be the business agent for the Des Moines local. Later he served as the District Vice President for the International Brotherhood of Carpenters.

Jim is survived by his wife, Julia, of 45 years; brother and sister-in-law, Jerome and Pat Slebiska of Harbor Springs, Michigan; a sister, Darlene Roush of Grinnell; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tom and Jane Hollander of Newton, and sister-in-law, Mary Kay Hoft of Ft. Dodge, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and their beloved black lab, Raz. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerome and Hazel Slebiska; two sisters, Gerry Slebiska and Irma Latham; and two brothers-in-law, Jean Roush and Larry Latham; also, their beloved black labs, Chevis, Pitch, and Hugs.

Jim enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, visiting, happy hour, their Lake Rathbun home, and spending winters in Palm Springs, CA.

There will be a visitation with family and friends, Tuesday, August 21, 2018, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Iles Funeral Home, Grandview Park Chapel, 3211 Hubbell Ave., in Des Moines. The family requests no flowers.
