MAMIE BRANDT

Mamie B. Brandt, 96, of 1423 Reed St., Grinnell, died at her home Sunday, June 25.

Services were conducted Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Michael D. Smith, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Organist was Margaret Wheeler, and pallbearers were Lyle Beeler, William A. Bryan, Marvin Doty, Leonard Heinselman, Tom Lowry and Donovan Evans.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery. Memorials in Mrs. Brandt's name may be made to the First Presbyterian Church and left at the funeral home.

The daughter of William and Jane McCosh Paul, she was born May 5, 1893, on a farm near Hartwick. She later lived near Brooklyn where she attended rural school.

She was married to Ira Brandt Feb. 4, 1920, in Grinnell. The couple farmed in the Blue Point area southeast of Grinnell until 1959 when they moved to the Reed St. home.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church,. During World War II she became a Gold Star Mother after the loss of her son, Staff Sgt. Delmar Brandt, who was killed in the Burma Theater while serving in the U.S. Air Force.

There are no immediate survivors. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Delmar and Marvin, the latter in infancy; her parents; two brothers, Alfred J. Paul and Arthur H. Paul; and three sisters, Agnes E. Paul, Margaret J. McIlrath and Elsie M. Esler.
