SHEILA SMOUSE HEATER

Sheila Kay Heater, 73, of Grinnell, Iowa, died on Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at the Bright Kavanagh House in Des Moines.

Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 25, 2015, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grinnell. The Rev. Ron Hodges will be the officiant. Organist will be Zach Heater and vocalist will be Adam Heater. Casket Bearers will be Nathan and Emily Heater, Nate and Katy Anderson, Zach Heater, Adam Heater, Paige Greene, Madelyn Heater and Makenzie Heater. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa. The Smith Funeral Home of Grinnell is handling arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to St. Mary's Catholic Church of Grinnell or to the Bright Kavanagh House of Des Moines, Iowa.

Sheila was born on August 4, 1941, in Carroll, Iowa, to Harlan and Catherine Hofbauer Smouse. She was raised in Carroll and later the family moved to a farm near Audubon. She graduated from Audubon High School in Audubon, Iowa.

On November 21, 1959, she was married to Gary Heater in Coon Rapids, Iowa. The couple lived in Audubon, Coalville, Callender, Fort Dodge, Webster City and then Des Moines. She obtained her real estate license in 1971 and her real estate broker license in 1975. The couple owned and operated Heater Realty in Webster City until 1983. They moved to Des Moines and operated Real Estate and Appraisal Group and worked as real estate appraisers. After their retirement, they moved to Lake Ozark, Missouri. Sheila moved to Grinnell in June of 2013 and resided at the Pine Ridge Condominiums.

Sheila enjoyed traveling, family fishing trips, family Fourth of July gatherings and playing pitch. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grinnell and volunteered at the Hope House in Lake Ozark, Missouri, the Grinnell Historical Museum, and she was a tour guide a the historical Louis Sullivan bank in Grinnell.

Survivors include her husband, Gary Heater; her three sons, Michael (Megan) Heater of Marion, Iowa, Darren (Janna) Heater of Indianola, Iowa and Keith (Lori) Heater of Muscatine, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Nathan (Emily) Heater, Katy (Nate) Anderson, Zach Heater, Adam Heater, Paige Greene, Madelyn Heater and Makenzie Heater; three great grandchildren, Connor Heater and Devin and Peyton Anderson; one sister, Karen Taggart of Des Moines; and two brothers, Dennis (Mary) Smouse and Gary (Natalie) Smouse, both of Exira, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Linda Smouse and Joan Hansen and one brother, Douglas Smouse.
