MRS. ESTHER LANPHERE

Mrs. Esther G. Lanphere passed away on Friday afternoon, October 30, at the home of her son, H.F. Lanphere, at the age of eighty-three years. Mrs. Lanphere was born in Catsauqua county, N.J., where she lived till twenty years of age, when she moved to Iowa, coming to Davenport in 1850 where she lived with her family for some years, but for many years has made her home in this city where she has lived a life of kindliness and gentleness.

Mrs. Lanphere joined the Methodist church in early life, retaining her interest and membership in that church to the end. Her strength and interests were given to others freely, first to those of her immediate family circle and then to the wider circles of the community life. Her neighbors found in her always a gentle and sweet Christian character and her family a tender and loving mother.

Funeral services were conducted by Professor L.F. Parker Sunday afternoon, from the residence of her son, H.F. Lanphere, where she has made her home in recent years. Her six living children were all present at the services.
