BOB KING

Bob King, 80, of Grinnell died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011, at St. Francis Manor.

A funeral service was held Saturday, Jan. 29, at Smith Funeral Home with Deacon Diane Eberhart of Grinnell United Methodist Church officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner. Pallbearers were Keith Rose, Steve King, Kevin "Bodie" King, Anne King, Shane Rose, Erika Rose, Tandy King, Trevor Slycord, Whitney King and Jordan King. Honorary bearers were Joe Clark, Pete Cline and Sara, Darci, Paige and Wyatt Rose. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Grinnell Odd Fellows Lodge or to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

He was born May 1, 1930, on the family farm in rural Grinnell, the son of Benjamin Arthur and Frances Broders King. He was raised on the family farm, receiving his education in the Grinnell School District. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Korean Conflict.

He was united in marriage with Vivian Irene Doty on July 28, 1951, in Hartwick. They resided in Grinnell where he was employed at the Grinnell Shoe Factory. After his tour of duty in Korea, he returned to Grinnell where he was co-owner for 29 years of C&K Transfer, retiring for health reasons. He later was employed at Grinnell College for several years in the security department.

He was a 50-year member of the Grinnell Odd Fellows Lodge and a member of the Grinnell American Legion.

Survivors are his wife, Vivian King of Grinnell; his daughter and sons, Katherine Rose of Grinnell, Steve King of Newton and Kevin King of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Lois Kasal of Brooklyn and Blanche Manfull of Montour; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Karla King; one brother, Raymond King, and one sister, Lona DeBondt.
