MILDRED OTTO

Mildred Otto, 81, of Brooklyn died Wednesday, June 33, at Grinnell General Hospital.

A family prayer service was conducted Saturday at the Nevenhoven Funeral Home in Brooklyn, with the Rev. John Epperson, pastor of the Grinnell Christian Church, officiating.

Graveside services were conducted Saturday at the Brooklyn Cemetery, with the Rev. Grover Branson of Ottumwa officiating. Pallbearers were Pete Petersen, Chuck Routier, Harny Harris, Vernon Graham, Gail Latcham and Chris Harris. Honorary bearers were Ross Mintle, Kenny Keenan, Merle Harris and Denver Miles.

The daughter of Roger Henry and Effie Mary Gregson McGinn, she was born Nov. 14, 1910, near Searsboro. She was a graduate of Grinnell High School.

She was married to Harry J. Otto, Dec. 20, 1933, in Brooklyn. The couple farmed in the Brooklyn, Grinnell and Victor areas.

Mrs. Otto worked for the former St. Francis Hospital in Grinnell and Grinnell General Hospital, retiring in 1978. She and her husband moved to Brooklyn in 1979.

She was a member of the Sonora Grange, Poweshiek Pomona Grange, Rebekah Lodge, Madison Homemakers Club and C.W.W.

Surviving are two daughters, Kathleen Burkett of Grinnell and Sharon Smith of Des Moines; one half-brother, Elvin Kirby of Bloomfield, N.M.; a half-sister, Eula Kirby of Ottumwa; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Ernest and Kenneth; two brothers, Raymond and Delmar Kirby; and two half-sisters, Eunice Sande and Vivian Kirby.
