JAMES R. JOHNSTON

James R. Johnston was born in County Fermanaugh, Ireland, November 4, 1847 and died at his residence in Scott Township, August 18, 1898. The deceased came to this country with his parents in Mar 1848 and settled in Rock Island County, Ill. In 1867, the family came to Poweshiek County, Ia where they have since resided.

James R. Johnston and Elizabeth Thorn were united in marriage Nov 28, 1872. By this union were born four children, Henriette, Pearl, Jesse and Earl. These children with their mother, also the mother of the deceased, now in her 80th year, six brothers, William, John, Thomas, and Robert of this county and one brother in Buena Vista County and one in Delaware County, two sisters residing here, Mrs. Thomas Orr and Mrs J. W. Brannian, together with many other relatives mourn the loss of a kind husband and father, a sincere friend and good citizen.

The funeral was held on Saturday at the late home, services were conducted by Rev. W. S. Kight, of Columbus Junction, a former pastor, and interment at Montezuma. Those in attendance at the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. George Lipton of Preemption, Ill., H. H. Johnston of Delaware County, a brother of the deceased and Samuel Johnston and Samuel Jordan of Audubon County, Ia.
