John W. Brannian was born in Monahan, Province of Ulster, Ireland, April 16, 1855, and passed away from this life Tuesday, Feb 21, 1922, at the home of his daughter, Mrs C. C. Willett, aged 66 years, 10 months and 5 days. The family came to this country when he was about ten years of age, settling near Preemption, Ill. Mr. Brannian came to Poweshiek county in early manhood and has spent most of his life here. He was united in marriage to Miss Laurel R. Johnston March 31, 1881, who preceded him in death May 12th, 1917.

Eleven children survive them: Herbert of Brooklyn, Alvin and Claude of Deep River, John, Mrs. Maude Mitchell, Mrs. Pearl Connell, Ross, Mrs. Flossie Willett, Clyde, Cecil and Guy of Brooklyn. Sixteen grandchildren, two brothers, James F., Bellingham, Wash.; David, Randolph, Iowa; and two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Johnston, Rock Island, Ill.; Mrs Rachael McQuitty, Correctionville, Ia.; also survive him.

The death of Mr. Brannian Tuesday morning was a surprise to his many friends and a great shock to his loved ones. Although he had been sick for some days it was thought that he was much improved. Death came suddenly and quietly. In the going of Mr. Brannian, the community has lost an old and highly respected citizen. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Cecil Willett, conducted by Rev. E.W. F. Holler, pastor of the Presbyterian church. Interment was made in the IOOF cemetery.

There is no death, the stars go down to shine on fairer shores; And bright in Heaven's jeweled crown, they shine forevermore.

Those from a distance who attended the funeral were, David Brannian and daughter, Edith, of Randolph, John Lipton of Preemption, Ill., and H. H. Johnston of Coggon, Iowa.
