Alice P. Johnson was born the daughter of Hugh and Mary (Stull) Gilliland on March 21, 1930 in Montezuma, Iowa. She was raised and educated in Grinnell. She was united in marriage to Herbert L. Johnson in 1953 in Raton, New Mexico. The couple was blessed with three children, Paul, Thomas and Patricia. Alice worked at Grinnell Laundry and later at Grinnell Regional Medical Center in laundry services for over thirty years.

Alice's enjoyments included walking, reading, listening to country western and gospel music, and collecting angel and owl figurines. She particularly enjoyed playing bingo with her friends and family every Tuesday afternoon at St. Francis Manor.

Alice is survived by her children, Paul Johnson of Kansas City, Missouri, Thomas Johnson of Germany, Patricia Johnson of Spokane, Washington; five grandchildren, Jennifer and Jeremy Johnson, both of Germany, Bryton, Kramer, and Brennan Johnson all of Laurel, Iowa; her siblings, Rose (Carl) Shockey of Newton, Iowa, Charles (Elaine) Gilliland of Grinnell, John (Karol) Gilliland of Marshalltown, Iowa, and William Gilliland of Grinnell; and her best friend Bee Johnson Clark of Grinnell. Alice was preceded in death by her parents; and her brothers, Hugh 'Bud' Gilliland in 1992 and Robert Gilliland in 1995.
