Nola Marjorie Smith, the daughter of Joe and Anna Marie (VanEnglandburg) Budding, was born November 2, 1931, in Sully, Iowa. She was raised and educated in the Searsboro, Iowa area, attending school in Searsboro, and graduating with the class of 1949. On August 10, 1950, Nola was united in marriage with Floyd M. Smith in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She worked as a waitress, and in a grocery story while Floyd was overseas in the military. After Floyd was discharged from the service, they made their home in the Lynnville area until 1954, when they moved to Goldfield. Nola was a housewife and they farmed in the area until their retirement in 1992, when they moved into town. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Morning Circle and Presbyterian Women.

Nola passed away June 16, 2008, at the Humboldt Care Center North in Humboldt at the age of 76 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Jennie Kucera, Heinie Wouda, Nellie Klein, Eva Anders, Bertha Ludwick, Frances Smith and brother, Joe Budding. Nola is survived by her husband, Floyd of Goldfield; children, Diane Kraft (Mike) of Goldfield, Donna Smith of Clarion and friend Bob Pooler of Boone, Sheri Nielsen (Bill) of Hardy and Scott Smith (Deandra) of Shelby, Iowa; grandchildren, Joanna and Daniel Kraft of Goldfield, Michael Nielsen of Ames, Katie and Rachael Smith of Eagle Grove; step-grandchildren, Desiree Paty of Aberdeen, SD, and Nathan Paty of Shelby; brother, John Budding (Gwen) of Cedar Rapids; sister-in-law, Glenna Budding of Lynnville and brother-in-law, Louis Anders of Marshalltown, and many nieces and nephews.
